Job title:  News Editor

Position Overview: This position holder is an important to the News production and is responsible for the technical quality of the news. The Editor, with the guidance of a director, edits news until it meets with the director’s approval. The director tells the news editor how to arrange the segments the bulletins, what footage to cut, and where to insert adverts, sound, or visual effects. The Editor uses nonlinear digital editing systems to edit scripts. When the script is complete, the news editor will create an edit decision list, which is an outline of each segment in the news as well as its length. Responsibilities The News Editor is the person of the hour.  He or she is the direct supervisor of the assignment desk and the producers.  Staffers in these positions each report to the News Editor. The News Editor supervises the copy editor who brings any potential problems with scripts to the News Editor for resolution. The News Editor works closely with the assignment desk to keep story meetings on target and timely. The News Editor works closely with the program producers and supervises news program rundowns. The News Editor works closely with the graphic artists to maintain consistency from program to program, day to day. The News Editor works with the Director of News to implement the strategic goals of the news department as designated by the Director of News. The News Editor is aware of budget lines that apply to news and works to maintain daily control of these lines.  When news coverage dictates budget lines will exceed budgeted amounts, the News Editor informs the Director Of News of developments. The News Editor works to maintain the editorial integrity and policies of the news department. The News Editor works to supervise special reports, such as multi-part, special stories for the daily bulletins.  He/she also supervises special event coverage that pre-empts regular news programming.

Work Experience Requirements: This individual should have at least 3 years experience as a news presenter.  He or she should have at least 5 years experience as a television journalist or equivalent experience in radio news or print journalism, either newspaper or magazine. Experience in on-line journalism will be extremely helpful.

Educational Requirements: B.S.C and a higher national diploma are mandatory.  Post graduate work in journalism or related areas is highly desirable.  Any other special course work or professional work is also desirable.

Salary: Package to be presented and negotiated (negotiable).

POSITION OVERVIEW:
The news anchor/presenter is the face of NN24. He or she personifies NN24 to our viewers. Therefore, this individual needs special qualities:
The news anchor/presenter must be one of the very best journalists at the channel. He or she must be a terrific reporter with proper professional experience. To be placed in the leadership and authority position of anchor/presenter means this individual must lead by example in the newsroom as well as on the air. He or she must take an active role in the quality and competitiveness of our journalism and execution of our journalism on the air every day. This person must lead by example.
This individual’s on-air skills with prompter or without, must be professional and show his or her superior professionalism. This is NOT a job for beginners. This individual must be able to handle “breaking news” situations with relative ease and skill.
This individual must take an active role in his or own news copy as a final check in its accuracy and readability on the air.
Given the level and depth of experience in his or her background, this individual must give active suggestions regarding story selection and treatment. This individual should offer regular story ideas and to the extent possible considering presenter duties, he or she should also report stories whenever possible, particularly special reports, documentaries and other,high-profile work.
This person’s personal appearance must be top-notch and must personify the smart appearance we demand from a news anchor/presenter. The word “professional” must describe this individual.
He or she must also provide an excellent example in his professional and personal ethics.
WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
