UNIVERSITY OF UYO CURRENT JOB VACANCIES

APPOINTMENT OF: VICE CHANCELLOR The post of Vice-Chancellor of the University of Uyo, Uyo will become vacant by December 1, 2010. In accordance with the provisions of the Universities (Miscellaneous Provisions) decree No. 11 of 1993 and the Universities Miscellaneous Provisions Amendment Act 2003, the Governing Council of the University of Uyo wishes to commence the process of filling the vacancy.
Interested applicants are please requested to note the following information about the University.
THE UNIVERSITY
The University of Uyo is classified by the National Universities Commission (NUC), for funding purposes, as one of the second generation Universities in Nigeria even though it was founded as a Federal University in 1991. On inception, it inherited the two campuses of the former University of Cross River State, which it replaced. The latter was founded in 1983 as a State University. The University currently has twelve faculties. It occupies a Town Campus, Annexe Campus and a Main Campus which is a few kilometres away from both the Town and Annexe Campuses. The University is committed to the development of highest academic standards both at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
THE CANDIDATE
The candidate for the post of the Vice-Chancellor is required to possess a good University education and should be a proven manager of human and material resources.
Specifically, the candidate shall be expected to:
• be a highly distinguished academic with a Ph.D.
• be of the rank of a Professor for at least eight years with ability to provide academic leadership for such an institution;
• be a successful scholar who is well rooted in the finest academic tradition;
• possess high reputation nationally and internationally and be able to command the respect of the national and international academic communities through his/her track record;
• provide administrative leadership to a welt informed and articulate academic community
• possess the ability to create the much needed harmony between staff and students on one hand and between members of the University Community and the host community on the other;
• be a person with clear vision for the development of a first rate University Institution even under resource constraints;
• be someone who appreciates and acts on and who will not give in to undue pressure;
• enjoy excellent physical and mental health;
• be a person who is not older than 60 years when he/she will be expected to assume duty as Vice- Chancellor;
• be computer literate.
THE PROCESS
Applications are invited from candidates who fit the above description.
Applicants are required to note and comply with the following conditions:
• each application should be made in 25 copies and should be accompanied with 25 copies of the candidate’s curriculum vitae duly signed and dated by the candidate. The curriculum vitae must include the candidate’s name in full, age, marital status, educational attainment, nationality, professional and academic achievements;
• each application should include the names and addresses of three referees. Each referee should be contacted by the applicant to forward direct to the Registrar the confidential report in properly sealed envelope marked Referee’s Report at the top left hand comer of the envelope;
• each application must be accompanied by 25 copies of statement of the candidate’s vision of the

CONDITION OF SERVICE
• The Vice-Chancellor shall serve for a single five-year term and the conditions of service shall be as applicable in all Federal Universities in Nigeria.

DIRECTOR OF WORKS AND MAINTENANCE SERVICES

JOB DESCRIPTION
• The Director of Works and Maintenance is the Chief Technical Officer of the University responsible to the Vice-Chancellor for the day-to-day running and maintenance of University buildings, equipment and other properties and for providing services and utilities for the well being of the University
THE PERSON
• The Applicant for the post must exhibit considerable degree of competence, responsiveness, and demonstrable integrity for the running of a Directorate of Works and Maintenance of a University or similar organization. Prospective candidates must be proficient in ICT with demonstrable competence in computer – aided designs and controls.
• Applicants must be in good health to be able to endure the rigours of the duties of a Director of Works and Maintenance Services. Such evidence must be tendered at the interview when convened.
QUALIFICATION
• Candidates must have a good honours degree in Engineering and Master of Science in Project Management or any aspect of engineering relevant to the job plus at least 15 years of relevant experience at a level not below the rank of a Deputy Director of Works in a University or similar institution.
• Possession of a Ph.D will be an added advantage.
• In addition, candidates must be registered member of Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) and the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN).

• The appointment is pensionable on such terms and conditions applicable in Nigerian Federal Universities and as may be determined by the Federal Government and the Governing Council from time to time.

Medical Laboratory Science Council: Registrar

Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria invites application from suitably qualified candidates from both public and private sectors for the post of Registrar to the Council.
Position: REGISTRAR
• The Registrar, who shall be the Chief Executive Officer and Secretary to the Governing Board.
Qualification and Experience
• The candidate must be a qualified, registered and licensed Medical laboratory Scientist.
• Must be a Fellow of the Medical laboratory Science Council of Nigeria
• Must not be less than 15 years post qualification
• Additional higher qualification will be an added advantage
Duties
The Registrar shall perform the following duties
• Keep the records and conduct the correspondence of the Council;
• Prepare and maintain in accordance with rules made by the Council; a register of names, addresses, qualifications and other particulars of persons entitled in accordance with provisions of Act. 11, 2003 to be registered.
• Correct in accordance with Council’s direction any entry incorrectly made
• Make necessary adjustments and alterations in the particulars of members as circumstances may require;
• Strike off the names of deceased members from the Register;
• Publish the names of members who are in default in the payment of their annual subscriptions for more than 4 months.
• The Registrar shall cause to be published in every year an updated Register of members;
• The Registrar shall have custody of all published editions of registered members and ensure that all such publications are open to inspection by the public and
• Any other responsibilities as may be assigned by the Governing Board
Tenure
• The Registrar as the Chief Executive Officer of the Council enjoys a tenured appointment of 4 years renewable for another term based on satisfactory performance
Salary And Conditions Of Service
• The salary and conditions of service- shall be as applicable to the post of Chief Executive Officer of Federal Parastatal.
